Franklin Parrasch Gallery is pleased to present the first New York solo show of London-based artist Jesse Wine: Every portrait is a self-portrait, kinda like every pizza is a master pizza. A recent graduate of the Royal College of Art, Wine was born in the United Kingdom in 1983 and currently works out of his London studio.

Earlier this year, Wine was invited to Hunter College in New York, where he created most of the works in this exhibition. Wine incorporates discarded elements from the built world (as well as the partially-built world), simultaneously formulating a language of passionate exploration and fervently disseminating seeds of aesthetic jubilance.

Using comedic “Bizzaro World” imagery, Wine’s art connotes a civilization evolving without rules. Working in a variety of media ranging from sculpture and drawing to video, Wine fabricates decadent surrealist forms while injecting a sensation of ambiguous texture and interior volume.

In collaboration with the Frieze Art Fair, Wine was selected to work with the Royal College of Art Educational Outreach team to create a pop-up gallery consisting of student-made books on the artists featured in the Frame section of Frieze, including Aids-3D, Tobias Madison, Des Hughes, and Lorenzo Scotto Di Luzio.
